So you think Windows8 is cool?

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 27, 2013, 3:16 AM
reposted from a fellow Anon on /g/. he perfectly summed why you should not downgrade to, or keep windows8 on your PC and i totally second this.

----------------------------------
The issue isn't with how artistically friendly the metro theme looks. The issue is about letting Microsoft botnet your entire computer.

>Letting Microsoft know everything you download and install on your computer.
gizmodo.com/5937649/windows-8-…

>Letting Microsoft scan every picture on your hard drive
i1.blogs.technet.com/b/microso…

>The man who invented Windows 8 knew it was so pig disgusting he quit Microsoft shortly after release
m.computerandvideogames.com/37…

People who install Windows 8 are seriously tech illiterate and have no idea what the fuck is going on.

>But Windows 8 is so modern and hip!
No, no its fucking not. AOL was not modern in the 1993 and its sure as hell not modern in fucking 2013.

The fact that you have to BUY extensions like Start8, the fact that you have to BUY extensions to re-enable aero, the fact that you have to EDIT THE REGISTRY to bypass fucked up Windows 8 coding, means the OS is shit.

Microsoft is already abandoning Windows 8 for Windows Blue. Windows 8 is basically Windows Vista, or Windows 2000, all over again.

-------------------------

plus, let's admit it, that minimalism is ugly as fuck.

don't want to use it. i think they just fixed the start menu.
...
Stallman was right since forever, we need to get rid of that proprietary clusterfuck that reduces vastly the possibilities of end users.
i'd also add that it enables the worst kind of idiots able to touch cute little pictures on a terminal device and post their insanities on the internet. in final, the future is not bright at all.

I actually like Windows 8, oops.

I wouldn't use it as my main desktop, but it's a nice improvement over 7 for my gaming partition. The online shit is annoying though.

i think this could be calculated, that laptop by example's a 2008 toshiba. japan stuff are a bit more durable than the average laptop on the materials and soldering, but knowing the amount of shocks and degradations that machine had for the time i used it (dropped, kicked, etc.) i'd say 5 more years. however, the desktop PC's theoretically good to operate for another decade.

No. the interface is a bit sloppy, more clicks to do simple functions. and well is designed for touch devices. for Desktop PCs is not really good. besides that is exactly like windows 7. the Kernel is almost the same.
but well lets remember the Microsoft Law.. Windows XP = Good / Windows Vista = bad / windows 7 = good / Windows 8 = ?

He was talking more about security issues than interface.

Which makes me wonder, would this be a good system for a purely offline device?

NT 4 + SP6 was the bees-knees. Still run XP Pro right now. Like others said, there's no point going to 8 when 7 has shown its flexibility.

Compatibility issues flushed me out of XP to 7, it was a nice thing. But since 8 offers nothing, I'll be staying on 7 till... I dunno, DX12 or something?

Haha, I didn't even know about Blue, that's pretty funny how fast they realized how bad they fucked up.

Though, I hope you know that they won't remove all that botnet, if not add even more of it in Blue. I assure you they will never say "oh, people actually like a functional desktop, and don't like being spied on and controlled? Sorry, our mistake, we'll stop".

they won't. i just wait and hope for MS to keep fucking up until they crash, for not satisfying the needs of professional users, bloggers, people who want to use their computers or whoever have some commonsense. they'll bring a fully locked OS with everything bundled, monkey-science touch screen to launch an app, see you're happy nao~

personally i still use XP because of the lack of interest i see on the windows versions developed since MS is under the control of Steven "CokeDyson" Ballmer. now if that could boost people to install gentoo.. er, rather ubuntu/debian and the ReactOS crew to develop their stuff faster that's only positive.

I don't think the first bit will be a problem, MS already lost to Android from being lazy and greedy and run by old people trying and failing to pander to the hip new younger generation. We just have to wait for smartphones to settle down from their unstandardized and unprofessional frenzy and replace desktops and then become desktops, by that time MS will be in an Apple Inc state if not dead, maybe selling MS Office that's so bloated it only manages to run on some devices about half the time maybe. We can only hope smartphones will turn the computing world in to a more open and friendly state.

XP, huh? Why not GNU/Linux? It's a shame ReactOS is so unstable.

exactly, it's sadly a long-time project to make sure the computer as we know becomes just a dumb terminal again devoid of a proper input device like a keyboard. TV is disappearing slowly and industries need something to sell content. the EU has brought significant taxes on personal storage by example. on hard disks, flash usb/cards and other optical supports.

do we want something fully cloud-based ? nope. that's a big issue on the privacy and property. no more internet (can't pay for it or moving) = no more PC. basically.

also, things like indexing your content in search for illegal content like pedophilia or control their internet traffic for anti-terrorist purposes is a sure way to convince people this is benevolent. it's like asking for every law-abiding citizen to surrender their guns to the police station in order to stop crime. actually no, that doesn't stop crime at all. we have now normal citizens being spyed and as we know, even if everything is legal, it's a good way to track people who are just too much curious about government's affairs. people who hope they can express their opinions through total anonymity.

here we go.

'Windows 8 is basically Windows Vista, or Windows 2000, all over again.'

Exact. After the great Windows XP we had the horrible Windows Vista. Next we had Windows 7, which is a quite nice OS. And now we have Windows 8, another shit from Microsoft.

Let's hope "Windows Blue" will be like Windows XP and Windows 7 - a good OS.

Instead of praying to the microsoft overlords, why not just not use it? I don't mean to insult or anything but that "let's hope" comment sounds a little pathetic and self-belittling. You have no control over any aspect of windows, MS does, that will never change. I understand being fed up with that way of life, and I understand being an MS fanboy and eating it up, but why on earth would someone do something they hate for no reason?

Yeah, you're finally right.
The problem is that I have no warranty that any other OS will work on my laptop as it might be locked. Another problem is with drivers.

I suppose it's always worth a try, right? After all it's never permanent.
Ubuntu might be a good choice, it seems to have lots of support. Though I suppose driver issues are semi-common with laptops for linux.
